About this blog
I’m experimenting with a new (to me) process for thinking my way into Sunday sermons. I’ll spend some time most days of the week noting my thoughts here. Anyone who wishes is invited to post a comment, a thought, a suggestion. With any luck readers can see my thinking developing … and I’ll have a somewhat more disciplined format in which to collect my ideas and ponder the meanings of the texts.
The Sub-title
The sub-title for this “blog” was carefully chosen. It’s intended to sound informal and a little funny. On the other hand … both halves of it are important. I am certainly inviting any readers that wish to look over my shoulder as I wrestle with the weekly texts and try to listen to where God might be pointing me. … And … sometimes I need to be poked in the ribs because the real issues are eluding me. So, if you’re interested in being part of my weekly dialogue, please comment, suggest, criticize, and respond.
How to add a comment
To add your own comments, click on the link to comments at the end of each entry. You’ll be asked for your name and email address, and the first time you write, your comment won’t be posted till I’ve had a chance to read it — this is to help to prevent “spam.”
As of September 2006, I’m writing a post on Tuesday mornings which is intended to kick off my thinking on (one of) the texts for the week. Subsequent thoughts on those same texts — by me or by anybody else — will show up as comments to that opening post, in chronological order.
The discussion doesn’t have to stop on Sunday!
By Sunday morning, of course, I’ve done my best (or worst) to the texts … but that doesn’t mean the discussion is over. I get the privilege of 15 minutes to talk uninterrupted … but I’m utterly convinced that sometimes what I say will rub you the wrong way, surprise, startle or inspire you. (I hope that last isn’t wishful thinking!) Please … continue the discussion, if you have a comment to make. Your feedback after the sermon is important to me!
If you’re interested in reading (or writing) more about the whole process … and what I’m learning about writing sermons by doing this … have a look at the category called “What we’re doing.”
So … if you’re ready … click on the title “Sermon Ponderings” right at the top of this page … and see what I’ve been mulling about this week.
